Account Executive (Singapore-Chinese Culture Focus)
The Account Executive with Chinese Singaporean cultural expertise is responsible for the day-to-day project management within the accounts they handle, with a particular focus on clients targeting Chinese Singaporean audiences or requiring Chinese Singaporean cultural insights. They need to have a strong understanding of the advertising/marketing landscape, Chinese cultural nuances, and be passionate about bridging these worlds effectively.
This role requires maintaining a deep understanding of Chinese Singaporean consumer behaviors, cultural sensitivities, and market trends. The Account Executive is responsible for managing client relationships, receiving new briefs, and ensuring campaigns resonate authentically with Chinese Singaporean audiences while meeting strategic objectives.
The Account Executive serves as the vital link between the agency team and the client, translating client requirements into proper briefs for managers and the creative team, with particular attention to cultural context and language considerations. They ensure that Chinese Singaporean cultural elements are appropriately and respectfully incorporated into campaign strategies.
They are also required to strictly follow the processes set out by management and manage campaign budgets, ensuring the campaign is profitable while delivering culturally appropriate and effective content.
Key Responsibilities
·      Assist the Account Manager and Account Director with management of clients and projects, particularly those targeting Chinese Singaporean audiences or requiring Chinese Singaporean cultural insights
·      Maintain assigned relationships with clients, establishing self and DSTNCT as an invaluable long-term partner for marketing and communications services in the Chinese Singaporean market
·      Meet and liaise with clients to discuss and identify their advertising requirements, with special attention to Chinese Singaporean cultural considerations
·      Work with agency colleagues to devise advertising campaigns that meet the client’s brief and budget while ensuring cultural relevance and sensitivity to the unique Chinese Singaporean identity
·      Present alongside agency colleagues (particularly the account manager), campaign ideas and budgets to clients, highlighting cultural insights and strategic approaches for Chinese Singaporean audiences
·      Work with the account manager to brief creative and strategy teams, providing cultural context and assisting with the formulation of marketing strategies appropriate for Chinese Singaporean consumers
·      Act as the link between the client and the advertising agency by maintaining regular contact with both, ensuring effective communication flows, including translation of concepts when necessary
·      Negotiate with clients and agency staff about campaign details, with attention to cultural nuances that may impact campaign effectiveness
·      Present creative work to clients for approval or modification, with cultural context explanations as needed
·      Handle budgets and manage campaign costs
·      Write client reports, including insights on Chinese Singaporean market response and cultural reception
·      Monitor the effectiveness of campaigns across Chinese Singaporean and mainstream Singaporean channels
·      Undertake administration tasks, including those requiring Chinese language skills (particularly Mandarin and local dialects like Hokkien, Cantonese, or Teochew) when necessary
·      Arrange and attend meetings, facilitating understanding of the unique Chinese Singaporean cultural context when needed
·      Make ‘pitches’, along with other agency staff, to win new business for the agency, particularly for clients interested in reaching Chinese Singaporean audiences
Required Skills
·      Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in both English and Chinese
·      Strong understanding of Chinese Singaporean culture, traditions, consumer behaviour, and market trends
·      Familiarity with Singlish and the ability to appropriately incorporate it in communications when relevant
·      Understanding of the unique Chinese Singaporean identity that blends traditional Chinese values with Singaporean multicultural influences
·      Ability to navigate between Singaporean business practices and communication styles across different ethnic communities
·      A proactive attitude, with the ability to use initiative in cross-cultural contexts within Singapore’s diverse society
·      Excellent organizational skills, including managing projects with cultural considerations specific to Singapore
·      The ability to work under pressure and assimilate large quantities of information quickly, while maintaining attention to detail
·      Effective teamworking skills, including collaborating with team members from diverse Singaporean backgrounds
·      Influencing and negotiation skills that consider cultural approaches to business relationships in the Singaporean context
·      Strong oral and written communication skills in both English and Chinese, with understanding of local expressions
·      Commercial awareness of the Singaporean market, particularly the Chinese Singaporean segment
·      A passion for advertising and an understanding of what makes a good advertisement for diverse audiences, particularly Chinese Singaporean consumers
·      Cultural sensitivity and the ability to identify potential issues in campaigns from a Chinese Singaporean cultural perspective
·      Knowledge of key Chinese cultural festivals and events celebrated in Singapore (Chinese New Year, Mid-Autumn Festival, etc.)
·      A willingness to learn and stay informed about evolving Chinese Singaporean market trends
·      Resilience, to enable you to deal with problems and constructive criticism across cultural contexts
·      IT literacy and an awareness of how the industry is developing in light of new communication technologies, including platforms popular with Chinese Singaporean audiences
·      Experience monitoring the effectiveness of advertising campaigns across both mainstream Singaporean and Chinese Singaporean-specific channels and platforms
