Job Title: Senior Merchandiser
Reports To: Brand Director
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Merchandiser to join our retail team for a concept gift store within Singapore’s latest art and culture theatre.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of merchandising experience in the retail industry, with a proven track record of driving sales and profitability through effective product selection, inventory management, and supplier relationships.
The Senior Merchandiser will be responsible for developing and executing merchandising strategies that align with the retail store’s vision, and meet the needs of our customer base.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Product Selection and Purchasing:
Identify and source products that meet customer demand and align with the store’s brand identity.
Negotiate with suppliers to secure favorable terms, pricing, and delivery schedules.
Manage the procurement process, ensuring timely and cost-effective purchasing.
2. Inventory Management:
Monitor inventory levels to ensure optimal stock availability without overstocking.
Monitor sales trends to ensure knowledge of what is selling (and what’s not) to enable smarter ordering decisions.
Conduct regular stock audits to help identify discrepancies early, whether from theft or miscounts.
Train staffs to ensure proper handling and storage techniques to minimize damage to goods.
Analyze sales data to forecast demand and adjust inventory accordingly.
3. Sales and Profitability:
Develop pricing strategies that maximize profit margins while remaining competitive.
Plan and execute promotional campaigns to drive sales and clear slow-moving inventory.
Analyze sales performance and adjust merchandising strategies as needed.
4. Supplier Relationship Management:
Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure reliable product supply.
Evaluate supplier performance and negotiate improvements where necessary.
Stay informed about new products and market trends through supplier networks.
5. Market Analysis:
Conduct regular market research to understand customer preferences and competitor activities.
Use market insights to inform product selection, pricing, and promotional strategies.
Identify emerging trends and opportunities for new product lines.
6. Team Collaboration:
Work closely with the retail team to align merchandising strategies with overall business goals.
Provide training and guidance to the retail team on merchandising best practices.
Collaborate with the marketing and communications team to ensure consistent brand messaging across all channels.
Required Skills and Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of merchandising experience in the retail industry.
Strong negotiation skills and experience managing supplier relationships.
Proficiency in inventory management systems and sales analytics tools.
Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales data and market trends.
Knowledge of the arts & culture/ gifting/ souvenir market and customer demographics.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and make data-driven decisions.
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Analytics, or a related field is preferred.
Job Scope:
The Senior Merchandiser will report directly to the Brand Director and will be responsible for the overall merchandising strategy of the retail shop. This includes overseeing the entire product lifecycle from selection to sale, managing inventory levels, and ensuring that the store’s offerings are aligned with customer demand and market trends. The role requires a strategic mindset, with a focus on driving sales and profitability through effective merchandising practices.
