Job Description
We’d like to start off by stipulating that we will only hire Singaporeans or PRs fore this role, and will not entertain any applications from foreign candidates unless they already have a permit to work in Singapore.
Seeking someone fresh out of school and looking to start a career in advertising. You’ll work with a team to conceive ideas for campaigns and be the wordsmith who brings them to life. Naturally you’ll need to be extremely good in English, and by that we mean you have aced all your English exams, and not because you think your English is pretty good. What does not count as being really good in English – having a blog (if that is even a thing), getting a thousand likes for a witty comment made on Mothership, or having your friends (or mother) tell you that you are a great writer and you should be a writer. We are looking for a grammar n@zi who is extremely pedantic. Of course, this a creative role and that’s where the magic of creativity and great writing come together to create great ideas. If you’re a recent A’ level grad who scored an A1 in GP (and also an A1 in your O’s), but failed everything else (maybe except Lit) and you now have to go work at your parents’ cai png stall, this might be your Robert Frost moment. In case you’re not a literati and more of a new age cyberpunk, sci-fi, film noir freak, then this the moment Morpheus offers you the blue and red pill. Just to be clear, we’re not just opening this role to heirs of cai png stalls. If you’re a poly grad who dreamt of being an astronaut in NASA but ended up working in your parents’ Nasi Padang stall, you may also apply.
Some of you reading this may wonder why do we need a writer when there is AI? Because AI can’t write lines that come from experience or the heart, plus after so many Terminator movies, I, Robot, Blade Runner, and Ex Machina, no thank you.
Our agency is 12 strong, and we’re looking for fresh ideas to win new work. And hopefully you could be part of that winning team. Long story short, we are seeking a wordsmith to fill a role in our boutique ad agency. And our work includes advertising campaigns (ad campaigns, not social posts or SEM or whatever) for a few financial institutions in Singapore, as well as pitch for new projects. Your work will include conceptualising campaigns, writing sexyand punchy headlines coupled with persuasive bodycopy, copy editing, proofreading, and the occasional presentation.
If you can write really well, have a lot of ideas, read a lot, can sing songs from the era of Karen Carpenter to Sabrina Carpenter, can recite quotes from movies verbatim, think Batman is the best superhero followed by Supes, then you might just be who we’re looking for.
