Job Description
Sullivan+Strumpf is seeking a motivated, organised and solutions-oriented Gallery Assistant to join our Singapore gallery on a part-time basis.
We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, personable and able to work confidently in a fastpaced environment. Reporting to the Gallery Manager, this role is part of a team based across Sydney, Singapore and Melbourne, supporting the day-to-day operations of the gallery, client relationships, artist promotion and exhibition activity.
The ideal candidate will have previous gallery experience and a strong understanding of Singapore’s contemporary art sector. They will have excellent attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and the ability to take initiative, manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively within a small team.
The Gallery Assistant will support the Gallery Manager, Directors, staff and artists to achieve shared artistic, creative and business goals, while contributing to a welcoming and professional experience for clients and visitors.
This is a part-time position with flexible working days, with the expectation that the successful candidate will be available to work at least one weekend day (Saturday or Sunday) each week.
Attendance at exhibition openings and occasional evening events may also be required.
Essential Requirements
• Minimum 2 years experience in a gallery or comparable arts environment
• Strong understanding of Singapore’s contemporary arts and cultural landscape
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence engaging clients, artists and stakeholders
• Strong administrative, organisational and attention-to-detail skills
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and contribute to a small,
collaborative team
• Availability to work at least one weekend day (Saturday or Sunday)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite highly desired
• Experience in sales, marketing or client relationship management is highly desired
Key Responsibilities
• Support the Gallery Manager and Directors with artwork sales, placement and client
engagement
• Build and maintain relationships with collectors, consultants and other key stakeholders
• Support client outreach, artwork presentations, viewings, follow-ups and sales administration
• Assist with public programs, events and artist projects
• Support PR and media outreach and coordinate exhibition and artist materials
• Assist with exhibition installation, de-installation and gallery presentation
• Maintain the day-to-day presentation and readiness of the gallery
• Provide general administrative and operational support to the Gallery Manager and wider
team
• Contribute to a collaborative, professional and positive workplace culture
