Job Description

SOMETHING to HOLD

Something to Hold is looking for a thoughtful, experience-led Retail Manager to lead our retail operations and shape an in-store experience that brings the Something to Hold brand to life.

This role sits at the intersection of people, customer experience, brand and commercial performance. You will be responsible for the day-to-day running of our retail space, leading and developing the retail team, and ensuring that every customer interaction reflects the warmth, care and considered approach of Something to Hold.

Beyond store operations, you will play an important role in understanding our customers — what they are drawn to, how they shop, and what we can do better — and translating these insights into improvements across the retail experience and wider business.

We are looking for someone who enjoys being on the floor, takes pride in the details, and is equally comfortable building relationships with customers, coaching a team, and working with numbers.

Key Responsibilities

Retail & Commercial Performance

Take ownership of the overall performance of the retail store, including sales, conversion, average transaction value and other key retail metrics.
Set and work towards monthly and seasonal retail targets together with management.
Review sales performance regularly and identify opportunities to improve results.
Understand product performance at a store level and communicate insights on bestsellers, slower-moving products, sizing and customer demand.
Work closely with the wider team on product launches, seasonal priorities and retail initiatives.
Identify opportunities to increase customer engagement, repeat visits and overall store performance without compromising the brand experience.

Customer Experience

Create a warm, thoughtful and intuitive customer experience that reflects Something to Hold’s values and approach to clothing.
Lead by example on the shop floor, providing attentive and knowledgeable service without being overly transactional.
Build genuine relationships with customers and develop a strong understanding of our community.
Handle customer feedback, enquiries and service recovery with care and good judgement.
Develop practices that encourage customer retention and meaningful long-term relationships.
Gather and communicate recurring customer feedback on products, fit, sizing, pricing and the overall retail experience.

Team Leadership

Lead, motivate and develop the retail team, creating a positive, responsible and collaborative working environment.
Recruit and onboard new retail team members as required.
Develop product knowledge and service standards across the team through regular coaching and training.
Set clear expectations around customer service, presentation, productivity and store responsibilities.
Manage staff scheduling and manpower requirements.
Conduct regular check-ins and performance reviews with retail team members.
Build a culture where the team feels confident taking initiative while maintaining a consistently high standard of service.

Store Operations

Oversee the smooth day-to-day operation of the store, including opening and closing procedures, POS operations, cash handling and daily reconciliation.
Ensure accurate inventory movement between the store, warehouse and other sales channels.
Oversee stock receiving, replenishment, stock counts and inventory accuracy.
Maintain appropriate stock levels on the retail floor and ensure products are presented thoughtfully.
Develop and maintain clear retail SOPs to improve consistency and efficiency.
Coordinate maintenance, supplies and other operational requirements for the store.
Ensure the retail environment is consistently clean, organised and well maintained.

Visual Merchandising & Brand Experience

Ensure the physical retail environment consistently reflects Something to Hold’s visual identity and brand standards.
Maintain thoughtful product presentation, merchandising and displays.
Refresh merchandising according to new arrivals, seasonal stories, inventory priorities and customer behaviour.
Work closely with the brand and creative teams on launches, campaigns and in-store activations.
Pay close attention to the details that shape the customer experience — from fitting rooms and packaging to music, scent, displays and the overall atmosphere of the space.

Customer & Product Insights

Act as an important feedback loop between our customers and the wider Something to Hold team.
Identify patterns in customer requests, fit feedback, sizing, product preferences and purchasing behaviour.
Prepare regular retail updates covering sales performance, customer feedback, product insights and operational observations.
Share qualitative insights that can help inform future product development, merchandising and business decisions.

Events & Community

Support and execute in-store events, launches, previews and community initiatives.
Develop relationships with regular customers and members of the Something to Hold community.
Work with the wider team to explore ways the physical store can become a meaningful point of connection for the brand and its customers.

What We’re Looking For

Approximately 3–5+ years of retail experience, ideally within fashion, lifestyle, beauty or another design-led consumer brand.
Previous experience managing or supervising a retail team.
Strong understanding of customer service and what creates an exceptional physical retail experience.
Commercially aware and comfortable working with sales targets, retail KPIs and performance reporting.
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
Confident in inventory management and day-to-day retail operations.
A thoughtful and effective people manager who enjoys coaching and developing a team.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of problems.
An appreciation for fashion, design and the sensibility of Something to Hold.
Able to balance commercial objectives with a genuine understanding of the customer and brand.
