Job Description
INSTINC is looking for a Gallery Intern to join our team and gain hands-on experience across the day-to-day running of an independent, artist-run contemporary art space in Singapore.
This is a practical, multi-faceted role for someone interested in contemporary art, exhibitions, artists, and the behind-the-scenes work that goes into running a gallery. You’ll work closely with the gallery manager, artists and collaborators across exhibitions, events and general gallery operations.
What you’ll be doing:
Gallery Operations
- Gallery sitting and managing the space 5 days a week
- Welcoming visitors and providing basic information about current exhibitions
- Keeping the gallery, exhibition spaces and office organised and presentable
- Assisting with enquiries, bookings and day-to-day gallery administration
- Helping maintain exhibition and visitor records
Artist Assistance
- Assisting artists with day-to-day exhibition and production needs
- Supporting artists during installation and exhibition periods
Exhibition Assistance
- Supporting the planning and execution of exhibitions
- Preparing exhibition materials, labels, signage and other supporting materials
- Assisting with set-up and takedown of exhibitions
- Helping coordinate exhibition openings, artist talks and public programmes
Communications & Content
- Assisting with social media and basic content creation
- Assisting with updating exhibition information across online platforms
- Researching artists, exhibitions and contemporary art topics
General
- Supporting the gallery team with research, administrative and organisational tasks
- Taking on ad-hoc tasks that come with running a small, independent gallery
Please note: The intern must be available to be in the gallery during our opening hours: Wednesday–Friday, 1–7pm, and Saturday–Sunday, 1–6pm. Remuneration is based on experience and availability.
